Mt Zion High School JROTC Cadets Inspire Young Minds Through Dr. Seuss Read Across America Campaign
On March 6, 2025 Mt Zion ROTC cadets gave a heartwarming demonstration of leadership and
community engagement by participating in the annual Dr. Seuss Read Across America campaign at Tara
Elementary School. This nationwide initiative, designed to promote literacy and a love for reading among
young students, provided the perfect opportunity for cadets to give back to their local communities while
inspiring the next generation.
The cadets read beloved Dr. Seuss classics to eager young audiences. Titles such as Green Eggs and Ham,
The Cat in the Hat, and Oh, the Places You'll Go! captivated students, making the event both educational
and entertaining. The cadets took turns reading aloud, using animated voices and interactive storytelling
techniques to bring the characters to life.
Beyond simply reading, cadets engaged with the students in discussions about the importance of
education, discipline, and perseverance. They shared their experiences in the ROTC program, answered
curious questions, and encouraged students to set goals and work hard to achieve their dreams.
The experience was just as rewarding for the cadets as it was for the children. “Seeing their eyes light up
when we read to them was amazing,” said one participating cadet. “It reminded me how important it is to
inspire kids to love learning. I hope we made a lasting impact on them.”
Teachers and school administrators praised the cadets for their involvement, highlighting the importance
of positive role models in students' lives. “Mrs. Gillespie, Tara elementary media specialist stated, “Mt
Zion ROTC cadets are appreciated for bringing lively spirit of reading to our students and the inspiration
they bring has a positive impact on the next generation of readers.”

Scholarships
Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) cadets recently organized an
educational seminar aimed at providing students with valuable information about career
opportunities and scholarships within the U.S. Air Force. The event, held at Mt Zion High
School, brought together military representatives, educators, and aspiring cadets eager to learn
about the various paths available in the Air Force.
The seminar featured a guest speaker from active-duty Air Force personnel, Second Lieutenant
Kenyaz M. Boston, 2d Lt, USAF, Gold Bar Recruiter, 351st Reserve Recruiting Squadron, Air
Force Recruiting Service. He shared insights into the wide range of career fields available,
including aviation, engineering, cybersecurity, logistics, and healthcare. He also discussed the
benefits of joining the Air Force, such as leadership development, financial aid for education,
and opportunities for global travel and service.
A key focus of the seminar was the availability of scholarships for students interested in pursuing
higher education while serving in the Air Force. He outlined the Air Force ROTC scholarship
programs, which offer full tuition coverage, monthly stipends, and book allowances for
qualifying students. Additionally, information was provided on enlistment bonuses and tuition
assistance programs for those looking to join the Air Force immediately after high school.

career readiness and education. With the continued dedication of Air Force JROTC cadets, more
students will be empowered to explore their future in military service and beyond.

Mt Zion Air Force JROTC Cadets Host CTAE STEAM Exhibit Showcasing Drones, Robotics, and the Benefits of JROTC

Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) cadets recently organized a Career,
Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) STEAM exhibit and JROTC Recruitment event
at Mt Zion High School aimed at showcasing the importance of science, technology,
engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) in modern education and career pathways. The
event brought together students to explore hands-on demonstrations and interactive exhibits.
A highlight of the exhibit was the live demonstrations of drones and robotics, captivating
attendees with real-time applications of STEAM in action. Cadets showcased drone piloting
techniques, autonomous navigation, and aerial surveillance capabilities, providing students with
insight into their growing role in various industries. Additionally, robotics displays featured
programmable machines, robotic arms, and artificial intelligence-powered automation,
emphasizing engineering and technological innovation.
The interactive nature of the event allowed students to test their skills in controlling drones and
robots, fostering a hands-on learning experience that encouraged curiosity and
problem-solving. A significant aspect of the exhibit was the emphasis on career pathways
within STEAM fields, specifically those connected to the U.S. Air Force and global careers.
In addition to showcasing STEAM innovations, the event also emphasized the benefits of joining

Mt Zion High School JROTC Cadets Receive Life-Saving Skills with CPR and AED Certification hosted by Emory Healthcare

In a proactive step towards equipping future leaders with essential life-saving skills, a group of
ROTC cadets recently attended a special certification event focused on CPR (Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training. Held in collaboration with
certified health professionals, the event emphasized the importance of swift action during
medical emergencies and aimed to enhance cadets' readiness to respond to real-life situations
both in the field and in civilian life.
Life-Saving Skills for Future Leaders
For ROTC cadets, leadership means more than strategic thinking and commanding troops; it also
encompasses the responsibility to act decisively during emergencies. The CPR and AED
certification course provided cadets with hands-on experience in life-saving techniques, ensuring
they can step in when seconds matter.
Cadets were trained by certified instructors in CPR, learning how to perform chest compressions,
rescue breaths, and maintain circulation in a person suffering from cardiac arrest. The AED
portion of the training demonstrated the use of the device, designed to analyze heart rhythms and
deliver a shock to restore a normal rhythm in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.
"Having these skills is critical not just for ROTC but for any situation where someone’s life is at
risk." "We want our cadets to be prepared for any circumstance, whether it's at our school or the
local the community. Being able to save a life is one of the most important responsibilities
anyone can have."
Training Highlights
The cadets participated in both theoretical and practical sessions during the event. They first
attended a brief classroom presentation, where instructors explained the science behind cardiac
emergencies and the role of CPR and AED in increasing a victim’s chances of survival.
Following the instructional segment, cadets were divided into smaller groups for hands-on
practice.
Instructors provided mannequins for CPR simulation, giving each cadet the opportunity to
practice proper chest compressions and rescue breathing techniques. After mastering the basics
of CPR, the focus shifted to AED usage, where cadets learned to recognize cardiac arrest,
operate an AED, and safely administer shocks using the device.
"It was a really valuable experience for our cadets." "The hands-on training gave them the
confidence to know what to do in an emergency. For ROTC cadets, this training not only adds to
their career ready skills but also prepares them to serve their communities.
"One of the core values of our ROTC program is service before self," by learning CPR and how
to use an AED, our cadets are gaining practical skills that they can use anywhere; in their units,
with their families, or even as bystanders in public emergencies.
